that invites a heart to soften.

I want a section for you to sit on zabuton on the floor along a table I make myself.
I want handmade ceramics
I want plum and ginger soda
and a pinch of cardamom in everything.

I want artists to adorn the walls and shelves
I want musicians to fill the space with their songs
I want poetry to be written and read aloud —
not a dry eye in the house.
I want friends to embrace,
lovers to meet,
for you to come alone to be held by the space
and a water bowl for your dog.

It’s bringing up some nervousness,
and I’m here —
holding these doves
that came to be released
as I trust in this vision
and in myself to carry it.

who is collecting stories of women's blood.

A long time ago,
I chose a path
of questioning the values that have been handed down to me. Choosing what to keep, and what to discard.

Raised by a society that treats women's cycles as a source of shame,
reconnecting with mine was one of the early ways I learnt to discover my own truth —
I chose to see my body
(and so myself)
with kinder eyes than those that had been given to me.

curiosity and softness can go a long way.

there's so much I can say on it,
but simply put
each month in this body is a gift
in which everything can be experienced.

each month, a moment to pause,

connect —
and give back to the earth what is already hers.

It comes naturally to me to focus on details - it's one of my superpowers, and as such can also be frustrating. I can immediately see (and try to fix) the exact element that throws something off balance -- sometimes that takes me away from the beauty of the whole, mainly in relation to my own work and projects. Being around and working with people who can lovingly zoom me back out helps me greatly, and in return I can focus on the fiddliest thing for hours. You should have seen me wiring the kitchen.

@eyeofeska was invited to build the effigy for this year's Somewhere, and invited me to join him and @sethcampanella on the last day of build to sprinkle some magic. I collected leaves, flowers, and seeds from the land, and in between those piles and contemplation of the emergent sculpture, my details revealed themselves, knowing the Big Stuff was taken care of. Teamwork at its best - flowy, easy, and playing to the strengths of each. I love you @eyeofeska

I am spending these hot summer days meditating on this amate paper I brought back from mexico -- as I feel myself emptying... emptying. Gently shedding what I thought I knew, making space for what wants to be.

Turquoise feels exciting and inviting. Being in the presence of large bodies of warm blues is a soft blanket for the soul. The bright dry blue of the Iberian summer sky reminds me of all the other moments that I've looked up and contemplated that fierce hue. I feel held by how long we have known each other now.

Blue cradled by the mountains is gentler than the untamed blue of the Atlantic. The Mediterranean and her olive trees lovingly hold us on her palm. She is inviting and endlessly kind. Looking at blue eyes at sunset with orange lights hanging behind the hammock, I see how orange makes blue bluer -- in looking between them, I am lost in the sea

Clearing blackberries to make garden beds, I thank each one before getting as deep as I can to pull the roots from the soil. They are hard to remove- they spread quickly and grow back vigorously from the root unless pulled.

In balance, bramble thickets are biodiverse places that play a key role in woodland succession as a nursery for saplings -- young trees and small animals use the spiky mass as shelter from predators.

Out of balance, they take over -- pulling down trees, tearing leaves, and shading out everyone beneath them, including the young trees they otherwise protect.

so I look to the spikiness I carry myself —
protecting young parts
vulnerable parts -
providing refuge for tender parts to grow.

If I don’t cut back, and sometimes pull the brambles out,
I hide in a tower of thorns
and what is not sharp can’t know the warmth and light of day.

giving thanks for the act of lovingly despiking -- tending to inner and outer landscapes.

but when I'm working with my hands--

I enjoy following the thread of what brings me into that place of sweet silent focus. Some tasks quickly absorb me, others- even things I think I'd like, or things I'd like to like- require repeated effort to draw my attention back.

I enjoy following the thread of what brings me into that place of sweet silent focus. Some tasks quickly absorb me, others- even things I think I'd like, or things I'd like to like- require repeated effort to draw my attention back.

Tlatilco and Olmec figurines from the preclassical period (~1250bc - 200) Guerrero, Colima, Veracruz, Valle de México.

These little figurines seen in various museums have been one of the small highlights of the trip. Something inside me stirs looking at their thousands of years old faces lit with emotions I recognise as my own — our own. They speak to me of wisdom-innocence — intuition — fertility — groundedness — of wonder — a trance — of love. It is both an astounding miracle and deeply obvious at once.

Noticing the ability of human creativity to move information beyond words in a way that collapses thousands of years into one instant. Noticing the threads of human essence that remain unscathed by the movement of time —noticing love —noticing the distance between us shrink.

Holding this world tightly in my heart, I imagine a world in which those in power are connected to their hearts, and those who are connected to their hearts are in power.
I imagine a world in which what connects us is more obvious to us than what divides us - in which our shared humanity carries more weight than the differences in its manifestation.
In which the pain we each hold isn’t turned against others, because our hearts know that our differences don’t threaten each other.
I imagine a world in which love guides our every movement
In which love guides my every movement.

I pray for us to break the cycle of violence
within and without.

Well, we had some 40°C days this week - even this cold fearing creature had to admit that time submerged in the creek that runs along the bottom of the land is time well spent. the creek that waters the garden and us too - that holds the salamanders and frogs and damselflies through arid summer days -- that keeps us all alive here, and lulls us to sleep every night with the gentle sound of water on water-- emerging from the mountains not too far from us, she's fresh and cool even when the world outside melts.

The cold creates such presence that time slows down until the opening and closing of a damselflies wings stretches into an eternity - a psychedelic instant in which canopies come into sharp focus and join hands in a protective embrace.

It's hard to know whether the currents running through my skin come from the cold, or from the rush of doing something I have stories about myself Not Doing. For one moment, or maybe two, I'm immune to the blazing sun

Nimbu is a teenager now, spending longer on his roams around the mountains and wriggling out of cuddles much more than he used to, although he still likes being around humans and follows us around the land as we work on the garden.

When it rains, he becomes very sweet and affectionate, lying with his head on my leg as I paint and the water droplets patter on the yurt roof. He stretches and rearranges himself a few times, and butts his head on mine. Sometimes, he just wants attention, and puts himself on whatever I'm doing.

I relate to this behaviour, and it makes me laugh.

It leads me to reflect on how we express ourselves -- how we've been conditioned to repress our instincts instead of expressing.

We seem not to judge animals like that— we say, cats will be cats, dogs will be dogs. And it's so much easier than expecting a cat to be a dog.

This post was originally meant to announce the last day of part III of 'Dwellers', but we were visited by so many lovely humans today that I never quite found the time 🌚 So instead a thank you post from the bottom of my heart to everyone that came, supported, created and made the past weeks what they were 🌅⁣

It's been a beautiful exhibition and experience, meeting so many wonderful people and receiving so much genuine interest and curiosity around my work and the way I live. I love calling the forest home, and I love coming to play in the city too, connecting with people, exchanging ideas, and cross-pollinating perspectives. My heart is deeply warmed and I am full of energy to get back to creating and working on the land 🧡🌱🐛

The exhibition series explores the relationship between humans and nature through different artists' practices and ways of living. For my part, I aim to bridge a little the seen and unseen, to create a sacred space of reminder that magic is everywhere around us 🌻🦌⁣
