Katherine Shapiro

My ancestors are Japanese and Jewish, and after ten years of travel and exploration, living around the world,  I am growing roots in the clay soils of South West Portugal.

My creative practice is centred around the land, her myth, and her gifts – this takes shape as working with craft, food, and creating spaces and altar- installations.  My devotion is to working with my hands and following the thread of aliveness and remembering that arises from raw material.

When not creating, I can be found being humbled by the land, furthering my knowledge how to create and sustain nourishing and regenerative systems, finding something fiddly to do with my hands, or more likely, lying in the sun and listening to the birds.
